We use accountability as an invitation. Think of accountability coaching as a call to action, a challenge, or a mini-goal for our clients to work toward. We invite the client to make meaningful progress. It’s not something that is forced upon them. It’s something that they’re agreeing to do because they’re the ones who ultimately need to have the desire and the expected outcome, as well as the drive to put the work in. We are there to partner or a guide them to success, while teaching them how to use their own strengths and skills on their journey.

Though we create a no excuse policy, accountability should be flexible. If something is not working for the client or if their direction of focus changes during their self-development, we help them to make the transition in a way that keeps them in line with their overall, long-term goals. When a client takes on the responsibility of becoming accountable for something and they do not follow through, we make sure they own up to it by firmly remind them of what their goals are and assess to see if those goals need to be redefined. Ask them why they want to achieve their goals and what they will lose if they do not achieve them.
